There was a young man named Joël who lived in a small, not very wealthy town. Every night, he would sit by his window, looking at the sky and dreaming of a better life.
Joël had only one lamp in his room. Whenever the electricity went out, he would light his lamp so he could read his books. But one night, the lamp broke. He had no money to buy another one.
In the darkness, he felt discouraged. But he remembered what his mother always said:
“Even a small light can chase away great darkness.”
Joël took his phone, turned on the flashlight, and kept reading. He didn’t stop learning. He used that small light every night.
After a few months, Joël earned a scholarship to study at a university. He left his town and went to the big city to change his life.
Several years later, Joël returned as an engineer. He built an educational center in his hometown so that no child would remain in darkness again.
He always said:
“It was not a big light that changed my life, but the small light I never turned off.”
