Peterson, 33, and Carlo, 31, had been best friends for more than ten years. They grew up in the same neighborhood, shared the same dreams, and had always been there for each other through life’s ups and downs.
One afternoon, Carlo called Peterson.
Carlo: “Bro, don’t you realize we’re getting older?”
Peterson laughed.
Peterson: “So?”
Carlo: “It’s time for us to have children. Everywhere I go, people keep asking me, ‘When are you going to have a baby?’ I’m tired of hearing it.”
Peterson paused for a moment.
Peterson: “I’m not going to have a child just because people keep talking.”
Carlo: “Then when are you going to do it?”
Peterson: “When I’m ready.”
Carlo shook his head.
Carlo: “You’ll never be ready.”
Peterson smiled.
Peterson: “I’m not bringing a child into this world only to depend on other people to help raise them. I don’t even have a job yet. I can’t fully take care of myself, so how could I take care of a child?”
Carlo laughed.
Carlo: “Don’t worry. God always provides.”
Peterson answered calmly.
Peterson: “God provides, but He also gave us wisdom to make good decisions.”
Carlo stood up.
Carlo: “Well, as for me, next year I’m having a baby—whether I’m ready or not.”
Peterson looked at his friend.
Peterson: “I just hope you never regret that decision.”

Three Years Later
Three years passed.
Carlo became the father of a one-year-old son.
Peterson was still struggling, working hard, and attending school to build a better future.
Everyone in the neighborhood constantly compared them.
“Look at Carlo. He’s already a father.”
“What are you waiting for, Peterson?”
Peterson always gave the same answer.
“Everyone has their own timeline.”
⸻
Five Years Later
Five more years passed.
The lives of the two friends had gone in completely different directions.
Carlo found a low-paying job.
Every morning, he woke up before sunrise and worked long hours just to provide for his family.
He paid rent.
He bought groceries.
He paid his son’s school tuition.
At the end of every month…
There was almost nothing left.
Meanwhile, Peterson graduated from school.
He landed an excellent job.
He bought a nice car.
He rented a beautiful apartment.
For the first time in his life, he was finally enjoying the rewards of years of sacrifice.

The Visit
One evening, someone knocked on Peterson’s door.
It was Carlo.
He looked exhausted.
His eyes were filled with worry.
Peterson invited him inside.
Peterson: “What’s wrong?”
Carlo lowered his head.
Carlo: “My son was sent home from school because I couldn’t pay his tuition.”
Peterson took a deep breath.
This wasn’t the first time.
For years, he had helped Carlo.
He had paid his rent.
He had bought food.
He had purchased clothes for Carlo’s son.
But this time…
He decided to speak honestly.
He looked directly into Carlo’s eyes.
Peterson: “Have you noticed something?”
Carlo: “What?”
Peterson: “It feels like I’m the one raising your son.”
Carlo remained silent.
Peterson continued.
Peterson: “We both made choices.”
Silence filled the room.
Peterson: “I chose to build my life before becoming a father.”
Then he pointed gently toward Carlo.
Peterson: “You chose to become a father before building your life.”
Carlo couldn’t say a word.
Peterson: “I’ve helped you for years.”
“But if I keep solving every problem for you…”
“…you’ll never learn to stand on your own.”
Carlo stood up, hurt and angry.
Carlo: “I never thought you’d talk to me like this.”
Without another word, he walked out.
From that day on…
The two friends stopped speaking to each other.
⸻
One Year Later
A year passed.
Peterson got married.
Soon afterward, he welcomed his first child into the world.
His baby lacked nothing.
A comfortable home.
A loving family.
Health insurance.
Savings for the future.
Everything Peterson had dreamed of giving his child was finally possible.
⸻
The Reunion
One Sunday afternoon…
Someone knocked on Peterson’s door again.
He opened it.
It was Carlo.
But this time…
There was no anger on his face.
He reached out his hand.
Carlo: “Please forgive me.”
Peterson smiled.
Peterson: “For what?”
Carlo’s eyes filled with tears.
Carlo: “I hated you.”
“I thought you were selfish.”
“But today…”
“…I finally understand.”
He took a deep breath.
Carlo: “If I hadn’t allowed other people’s opinions to control my decisions…”
“…my life might have been very different.”
He looked around Peterson’s home, then at Peterson’s little child playing happily on the floor.
He smiled.
Carlo: “You were right.”
“You didn’t wait because you didn’t want children.”
“You waited because you wanted your child to have a better life.”
Peterson placed his hand on Carlo’s shoulder.
Peterson: “It’s never too late to rebuild your life.”
The two old friends embraced.
Their friendship was restored.

Lesson
Never let social pressure, family expectations, or public opinion push you into making life-changing decisions before you’re truly ready. Becoming a parent is not a race. When you prepare first, your child benefits from the choices you made long before they were born.
